Alamo Architects Receive Downtown Alliance

San Antonio-based architectural firm
Alamo Architects recently received the "BEST Development/Construction
Project" award from the Downtown Alliance/San Antonio
at the organization's 2004 Awards Luncheon and Presentation.
The Downtown Alliance recognized Alamo Architects' design
for the St. Mary's Street Parking Garage, a six-level parking
garage constructed along St. Mary's Street between Pecan and
Travis streets in San Antonio.
The parking garage contains ground floor retail and commercial
space along St. Mary's Street to maintain the traditional
street level character, and accommodates 700 cars. The $8.3
million project was completed in March 2002 and was contracted
by the city of San Antonio.
"We are especially pleased that this project has been
recognized by the Downtown Alliance," said Michael Lanford,
Alamo Architects partner. "We had a great time designing
the Parking Garage and believe that it contributes to the
urban design of downtown San Antonio."
The Fourth Annual Downtown's BEST Awards recognized achievements
that contribute to the quality of life downtown and make downtown
San Antonio a better place to live, work, shop, play and be
entertained.
Alamo Architects is currently working on designs for the
Shops at La Cantera, a preeminent open-air retail marketplace
to be located in the Hill Country and is expected to open
in the fall of 2005.
ABC Commends Passage of OSHA Reform Bills
Associated Builders and Contractors recently commended the
U.S. House of Representatives for passing four (OSHA) reform
bills. The bills are part of the U.S. House of Representatives'
Careers for the 21st Century initiative, which address eight
key aspects of the U.S. economy in order to create rewarding,
lifelong career opportunities for American workers.
"ABC supports the vital work done by the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration, with whom we partner across
the nation on construction industry safety. However, the four
bills passed yesterday by the U.S. House of Representatives
are crucial because they will help to ensure that OSHA carries
out its duties in a fair, efficient and responsible manner,"
said Kirk Pickerel, ABC president and CEO.
