New SpawGlass HQ Gets LEED Certification

SpawGlass Construction Corp.'s new corporate headquarters recently became the first occupied building in Houston to receive certification from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program from the United States Green Building Council.

The headquarters received a silver rating from the LEED program and had to qualify in several areas to become certified such as water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources and indoor air quality.

SpawGlass broke ground last July on the new corporate headquarters for the new 20,000-sq.-ft. office located at 13800 West Road in northwest Houston. The company moved into the new headquarters in January and celebrated its grand opening April 17 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, open house and crawfish boil.

New Brownwood Clinic Built With ICF Forms

The new 11,000-sq.-ft. Veterans Administration Community Outpatient Clinic in Brownwood was officially dedicated in mid-March as part of the city's Memorial Park Medical Center.

The clinic was constructed with the use of insulating concrete forms, manufactured by Florida-based ECO-Block.

"When we discussed building the VA clinic, we were most impressed with ECO-Block because of its long-term benefits," said Bill Ruth, principle owner of Wesleyan Development Corp., which developed the Memorial Park Medical Center.

"This type of building system results in energy efficiency that can result in significant savings on heating and cooling. And we know that (these types of) structures can stand up to strong winds and tornadoes. That's something we're familiar with in central Texas."

Brownwood is located about 75 miles southeast of Abilene.

Among the featured speakers at the dedication ceremony was Texas businessman and former U.S. presidential candidate Ross Perot.
