New Terminal for Sugar Land
An ambitious capital improvements program at Sugar Land Regional
Airport has resulted in the recent completion of a new terminal.
Designed by Houston-based architecture and engineering firm
PGAL, the terminal evokes the appearance of a Texas country
club with wide porches and the liberal use of native limestone
complementing a two-story tower. Wood trusses accent the standing
seam metal roof and highlight the rustic stone fireplace.
Amenities include an executive lounge, conference and meeting
rooms, as well as lease space for rental car agencies and
airport concessions. The pilot's lounge provides private sleeping
rooms, a media center and library, flight planning area and
shower facilities. Additionally, the building houses the administrative
offices of the Sugar Land Regional Airport and the support
functions of the Fixed Base Operation.
The $5 million project team members included EE Reed Construction
LP, general contractor; Walter P Moore, structural engineer;
and Burns DeLatte & McCoy Inc, MEP contractor.
Texas Institute for Genomic Medicine Breaks Ground at A&M
Gov. Rick Perry recently helped break ground for the Texas
Institute for Genomic Medicine at Texas A&M University.
Perry was joined by project leadership including Texas A&M
University Chancellor Dr. Bob McTeer, Chairman John White
and other members of the board of regents.
The project, a collaboration of the state, Texas A&M University
System and Lexicon Genetics, seeks to help Texas become an
international focal point for research and job growth in life
sciences. TIGM is a world leader in genome mapping. Last year
Perry announced a $50 million Texas Enterprise Fund grant
to establish the institute.
"TIGM will not only be a great source of hope and healing
for the sick and injured, but a tremendous source of opportunity
and jobs for Texas families," Perry said.
TIGM is expected to create 5,000 new high-paying jobs in Texas
and to attract scores of biotech firms that want to be near
the world's premiere genetic research facility.
The MGHerring Group Breaks Ground on Uptown Village
The MGHerring Group, a Dallas-based shopping-center developer,
recently unveiled plans for the first upscale, open-air retail
center in the Cedar Hill community during a ground breaking
celebration for Uptown Village at Cedar Hill.
The two-level Uptown Village is slated to open in March 2008.
Major tenants include Dillard's and Barnes and Noble. There
will be space for six upscale casual restaurants and a second
department store, along with 75 shops including well-known
fashion apparel and home furnishings.
At 800,000 sq. feet, Uptown Village at Cedar Hill will sit
on 73 acres bounded by Highway 67 to the east, FM 1382 on
the south, Pleasant Run Road on the north, and Cedar Hill
Road on the west. Cedar Hill is considered the Hill Country
of North Texas, adding striking views to the list of amenities
Uptown Village will offer.
The project is a joint venture between Prudential and The
MGHerring Group. Bank of America will provide the construction
financing for the Cedar Hill center.
The MGHerring Group retained CMH Architects to design Uptown
Village at Cedar Hill, and Architecture + as the production
architect. The design will reflect the distinctive and historic
architecture of Cedar Hill, capturing signature features of
the Hill Country of North Texas with lush landscaping and
rolling hills. CDI Contractors will serve as the general contractor.
