Elected President of DBIA’s Southwest Chapter
Firms Announce Promotions and Honors All Across the State.
A veteran Fort Worth-Dallas design-builder, David Bloxom, has been elected president of the Southwest chapter of the Design-Build Institute of America. David Bloxom also is certified as a “Designated Design-Build Professional” by DBIA.
DBIA is a national organization founded in 1993 to promote the design-build project delivery method throughout the construction industry. The Southwest chapter, which includes Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and New Mexico, is one of 16 within DBIA. The design-build delivery method is a system of contracting by which one entity performs architecture, engineering and construction services under a single contract with the building owner.
Bloxom is president of Speed Fab-Crete Design-Build General Contractors in Fort Worth, which began in 1951. David Bloxom has been with Speed Fab-Crete 33 years. He is a former member of the Fort Worth school board.
Speed Fab-Crete also is the oldest, continually operated precast concrete product manufacturer in the Southwest. As an option to the owner, the company offers a precast concrete wall panel building system to form the exterior of all type structures.
Speed Fab-Crete was one of the first general contractors in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex to create a website on the Internet in 1997. Today, www.speedfab-crete.com offers visitors more than 70 pages of information about the 56-year-old company.
Lyn Rosenberg-Johnson has joined HOK Houston as associate, project architect. Rosenberg-Johnson has nearly 10 years of experience in institutional, industrial, commercial and residential facilities for governmental agencies as well as for private sector industry and individual clients.
Mike Stagner has joined HOK Houston as project architect. Mike brings with him over 30 years of experience in a range of disciplines including architecture, construction management and environmental consulting. He has experience with projects in a range of markets including, healthcare, corporate, residential, mixed-use and industrial. HOK Houston has over 130 employees and provides architecture, engineering, planning, interior design, graphic design, and facility consulting services. The firm's major market sectors include corporate, commercial, higher education, science and technology and healthcare.
Full-service commercial flooring specialist Intertech Flooring announced today the appointment of Kyle Phillips as design consultant for the Austin market. As Intertech's design consultant, Phillips will work with designers, architects, end-users and general contractors to assess project flooring needs and assist in selecting the best products to meet customers' needs and budgets. Phillips brings five years' commercial flooring and design specification experience to the Intertech team. Before joining Intertech, she was sales associate with global flooring manufacturer Bentley Prince Street in Tampa, Fla.
LJA brings on two new project managers. Clay Forister, PE, and Ricardo Zamarripa have joined LJA Engineering & Surveying, Inc. (LJA) as project managers in the firm’s Houston Transportation division.
Clay has seven years of experience in the engineering and design of transportation projects. In his new position, Clay will manage transportation projects throughout the State of Texas. Ricardo Zamarripa, PE, has more than eight years of experience in transportation engineering. In his new position, Zamarripa will manage and prepare transportation design schematics and PS&E packages for various counties, cities, and TxDOT.
T. David Chinn, P.E., has rejoined HDR as a senior vice president whose responsibilities include leading the company’s water treatment desalination initiatives. Prior to rejoining HDR, he was vice president for global initiatives with ZENON Environmental, Inc. Chinn held various positions within HDR from 1995 to 2003, including national director of drinking water. His prior experience also includes serving as assistant director for governmental affairs for the American Water Works Association. He is based in the
Austin, Texas office. He serves on the AWWA International Relations Committee and Arsenic Task Force, and is active in the National Society of Professional Engineers and American Society of Professional Engineers, where he serves as the Texas state director.
After contributing to the HOK Board of Directors for a number of years, this week Gary Kuzma, the senior vice president, director of MEP engineering for HOK Houston, has been awarded board member emeritus status. Gary Kuzma graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree in 1979. After beginning his career in Pennsylvania with H.F. Lenz Company, he and his wife, Vicki, moved to Houston, where he joined CRSS as a design engineer. Celebrating his 25 year anniversary last year, he has worked on many of the firm’s major projects that span around the world. Gary is currently the Director of MEP Engineering for the Houston office and is an active member of the Project Delivery Board as well as several other HOK firmwide initiatives.
HOK Houston Associate Project Architect Wyatt Frantom has received the Young Architect of the Year Award from the Houston Chapter of AIA. The Young Architects Award is given to individuals who have shown exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the profession in an early stage of their architectural career. Wyatt has over a decade of experience in the industry, functioning as project architect and designer on a diverse selection of project types and scales, including large multi-use housing and health care complexes, facility design for higher education and religious institutions, as well as retail and residential work.
Berkebile Nelson Immenschuh McDowell Architects (BNIM), Houston, welcomed new staff recently. James Anderson brings extensive experience in project design, documentation, construction administration and project management to BNIM. Cindy Lee brings more than 25 years of administrative assistance to the firm in her new role of executive assistant. You En Lee, Assoc AIA, joins BNIM to assist with design development and construction administration on local transit projects. She has five years of experience.
RdlR, Houston, announces advancements for the following individuals in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the firm and architectural profession: Daniel Bankhead, AIA, CSI, was recently promoted to the position of associate principal. In addition, Carmen Kearns, AIA, LEED AP, was recently promoted to associate. Dot Walters was promoted to associate and Ancel Nunn, Assoc AIA, obtained architectural registration through the TBAE. Three RdlR team members obtained LEED accredidation recently: Carmen Kearns, AIA, LEED AP, Phillip Cano, Assoc AIA, LEED AP, and Howard Merrill, AIA, LEED AP.
