Bartlett Cocke Names New CFO

Also, new hires at McCarthy, JE Dunn South Central and SpawGlass.

Bartlett Cocke General Contractors of San Antonio has named Roberto Rios, former CFO of Galo Properties Inc., chief financial officer. Rios has more than 25 years of finance experience and will oversee all accounting, finance and information technology.

Rios earned a bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin and has completed work at University of The Incarnate Word on a Masters degree in Business Administration.


WALTER P MOORE recently announced that Matthew Brightman, P.E., S.E., LEED AP, has been chosen the 2007 recipient of the firm’s “Javier F. Horvilleur Outstanding Young Engineer Award.” Named in honor and memory of Javier F. Horvilleur, P.E., a WALTER P MOORE senior principal who died unexpectedly in September 2002, this award is presented annually to one young structural engineer at WALTER P MOORE to recognize design excellence, outstanding client service, and business acumen. Brightman was selected from nominees from throughout the firm’s ten offices nationwide. Selection Committee chair David Landis cited Brightman’s outstanding technical and creative contributions to several of the firm’s most significant projects. Brightman is a senior associate and project manager in WALTER P MOORE’S Houston office. A graduate of Washington State University (bachlor’s) and the University of Texas at Austin (master’s), he has been a key participant in many of the firm’s major projects.


McCarthy Building Companies Inc. announced the recent hire of Edward Cross as project manager for the firm’s Texas Division. In this role, Cross will be responsible for providing leadership to project staff to ensure quality and timely completion of projects. Cross graduated from Texas A&M University in College Station with a bachelor’s of science in construction science and architecture. McCarthy Building also announced the recent hire of Richard Lester as senior project manager for the firm’s Texas Division. In this role, Lester will be lead the field staff in the quality and timely completion of various projects. Lester holds an associate degree in construction technology and business management from Tulsa College in Oklahoma. He holds a Florida Certified General Contractors License.


Terracon Consultants Inc. announced that Daniel J. Rich, P.E., has joined the Houston, Texas, office as geotechnical project engineer. Rich has performed numerous geotechnical investigations to determine the cause and extent of damage to residential and commercial structures. Rich is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the civil engineering department at Texas A&M University in College Station. He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and a master’s of civil engineering at the University of Houston.


Civil Engineering Consultants named Tony Cortes as the new construction coordinator. Cortes, founder and former owner of Cortes Contracting Inc., has more than 35 years of experience in utility construction of water, sanitary sewer, natural gases, storm drainage systems, buildings and pavements and construction of water and sewer plants.


Equipment Collaborative Inc. has announced the hiring of Paula Cleaver as equipment planner in the firm’s recently opened Dallas office. Cleaver brings more than seven years of equipment planning experience specializing in surgery, imaging and women’s centers. Cleaver graduated from University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas with a bachelor’s of science in health services administration.


JE Dunn South Central announced that Dan Bernhard has joined as vice president – regional director of preconstruction. Bernhard brings more than 25 years of experience in the construction industry to his new position. Prior to joining JE Dunn SouthCentral, he was director of preconstruction at JE Dunn’s sister company, R.J. Griffin & Co., in Charlotte and Atlanta. Bernhard holds a bachelor’s of science degree in engineering from Texas Tech University.
Arias & Associates Inc., a geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing and environmental consulting firm, announced the addition of Aleisha A. Knochenhauer as director of environmental services in its San Antonio office. Knochenhauer has more than twelve years of experience working for national companies in the environmental service markets. Knochenhauer attended the University of Utah where she earned a bachelor’s of science in chemical engineering. She recently earned an executive master’s of business administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Smith Seckman Reid Inc. has hired Melissa Wright as marketing manager in Houston. Wright has been in the architectural and engineering industry for eight years with specific experience in the health care and higher education markets. Wright holds a bachelor’s of arts in marketing from the University of Houston - Clear Lake.
Susman Tisdale Gayle, an architecture, interior and planning firm based in Austin, recently announced that Terrance “Terry” Newton, AIA has recently joined as a senior project manager. Terrance graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in environmental design. Bill Donovan, AIA, also recently joined STG. Donovan brings with him extensive construction administration experience. Donovan is a graduate of the University of Houston’s College of Architecture and a registered architect in the State of Texas.
Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. recently announced the appointment of Travis Pope as government relations manager. Pope holds a bachelor’s of arts degree in public affairs and corporate communications from Southern Methodist University. LAN also announced that its transit operations manager, Timothy J. Schmidt, P.E., will graduate from the Leadership American Public Transportation Association Class of 2007. His graduation took place recently during APTA’s annual convention in Charlotte, N.C. At the convention, LAN’s senior transit project manager, Steven H. Brown, P.E., was inducted into the Leadership APTA Class of 2008. Schmidt was among an elite nationwide group of 25 transit professionals selected to the Class of 2007 to address the challenges, demands, opportunities and key topics of the transit industry.
SpawGlass Contractors Inc. announced that Robert “Bob” K. Farmer has joined as director of preconstruction services for the Austin, San Antonio and South Texas regions. Farmer will coordinate all preconstruction activities with the project team, from the conceptual estimate through the development of the final construction documents and project budget. Farmer’s construction experience includes construction management for educational facilities, corporate headquarters, laboratories, public facilities, health-care projects and industrial facilities.
LJA Engineering & Surveying Inc. has promoted Gregory “Greg” J. Patch, PE, to the position of vice president at In this position, Patch will continue to lead Site Development in the Houston Land Development Division of LJA. Previously, Patch served as senior project manager of Site Development. He has more than 25 years of design/build, development and construction experience in commercial, industrial manufacturing, institutional, multifamily and retail projects. Patch is a licensed Professional Engineer in the States of Texas and Nevada, as well as a Licensed General Building Contractor. He is a graduate of California Polytechnical University of Pomona with a bachelor’s of science in civil engineering. LJA also announced the promotion of Melony Gay, PE, to senior project manager in the Houston Land Development Division of LJA Engineering & Surveying Inc. Gay has more than 13 years of experience in civil engineering for land development projects. In her new position, Gay will be responsible for management of the design and construction of various projects within the greater Houston area. A licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas, she is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s of science in civil engineering.
